About ClimbingCriteria

Climbing protection is certified for a reason. Ropes, harnesses, carabiners, belay devices and helmets are tested to UIAA and EN standards, and each comes with instructions for use and retirement. ClimbingCriteria explains those standards and compares gear on them, alongside fit and intended use.

We cover climbing shoes, harnesses and belay gear, ropes and protection, bouldering and training, and ice and alpine equipment. General hiking and camping belong to OutdoorGearVerdict. Our guides do not replace instruction from a qualified guide or coach, or a manufacturer's instructions.
